Fisker's Manufacturing Partner Magna Suspends Russian Operations

Magna International, Fisker’s manufacturing partner, supports Ukraine and will be idling its Russian operations.

Magna International, parent company of Magna Steyr, will be suspending its Russian operations. Fisker and Magna announced their partnership at the end of 2020. The Fisker Ocean will be manufactured exclusively by Magna in Europe. Production of the Fisker Ocean SUV starts in November 2022 at Magna Steyr’s CO2 neutral factory in Graz, Austria. The electric vehicle leverages Magna’s EV architecture combined with the Fisker-Flexible Platform Adaptive Design (FF-PAD). The companies co-developed the FM29 platform, a lightweight, aluminum intensive platform for the Fisker Ocean.

In a statement posted to their website, Magna International will be idling its Russian operations. The company, like most of the world, is deeply concerned about the Russian war in Ukraine. It states that they do not have facilities in Ukraine. Magna employs thousands of Ukrainian and Russian colleagues in operations around the world. The company shares in the same values of human rights, diversity and inclusion as their employees. Magna employees 158,000 people worldwide.

Like most in the international community, we remain deeply concerned with the very unfortunate situation in Ukraine. Given current conditions, Magna is idling its Russian operations.

Although we do not have facilities in Ukraine, we have the privilege of working with thousands of Ukrainian colleagues in our Magna operations around the world as well as those from Russia who share the same values of human rights, diversity and inclusion. Today, we are making a significant donation to the UN Refugee Agency and will match employee contributions for the well-being and safety of Ukrainian people, which remains a paramount concern during this difficult time.

No statement from Fisker

As time of this publication, we have not heard any statements from Fisker, Inc. regarding their support for Ukrainians. Fisker does not have any operations in Russia or Ukraine. However, Fisker may have employees from either nation or colleagues at Magna Steyr working on the Fisker Ocean. We will update this post when Fisker shows their support for human rights, diversity and inclusion.
