Henrik shows off a fully automated high voltage battery marriage robot hard at work assembling a Fisker Ocean electric SUV.
Today, Henrik Fisker arrived in Austria at Magna Steyr, the company producing the Fisker Ocean. He provided an update together with a new video from the factory floor at Magna Steyr. Henrik continues to use the words “The MACHINE” to describe the robots hard at work on the factory floor. In a post on social media, he stated, “The MACHINE is running! Robot installs battery super fast! Just arrived in Europe more photos & videos from the plant, already producing Fisker Ocean’s ahead of official SOP date, November 17, 2022.”
As you can see in the video, robots continue to build Fisker Ocean electric SUVs on the high volume assembly line at Magna Steyr. Previously, we’ve seen similar photos and videos of the fully automated high voltage battery marriage robot. This machine sets the battery in the Fisker Ocean in less than 2 minutes. This also includes the time it takes to automatically fasten all 26 bolts that secure the EV battery in place. Over the past week, we’ve seen other machines at Magna Steyr assemble and move the Fisker Ocean through the production line.
Overall, Magna Steyr is a machine in and of itself having built more than 3.7 million vehicles since inception. Instead of investing in its own factory, assembly line, and robots like Magna Steyr or other car makers, Fisker has taken the road less travelled. The company is relying solely on Magna Steyr and other contract manufacturers to build its electric vehicles. Fisker doesn’t need to worry about building, operating, or maintaining machines to assemble its electric vehicles. Fisker can focus on product development and customer experience while leaving Magna to run the machine.
